The International Pinzgauer Breeder's Association is planning to come to Australia for an approximately 10 day tour this year, starting on the 23rd of October. Everyone is welcome to join in the tour and meet fellow breeders from all over the world - we are anticipating that there will be attendees from various European countries, some from South Africa and North America.
We have compiled an itinerary and costing, please peruse and let us know if you were interested in joining the tour, or at least meeting up at Fairfield Farm in Kiama on 26/10 for a lunchtime BBQ. It would be absolutely fabulous to get everyone together and enjoy a catch up with fellow breeders to exchange experience across the globe.

A lovely time was had by all at the Berry Small Farm Field Days - two baby Lachvina heifers were shown off to the public in a very comfortable tent. Thank you so much Laurelle Price for getting them out there!
2021
It is with great sadness that the Council of the Australian Pinzgauer Breeder’s Association share the news of the sudden unexpected passing of our president, Ray Price, last Saturday. This is a terrible shock to us all.
Laurelle and Ray Price have been involved with Pinzgauer Cattle from the very early days of the APBA’s formation in the early 1990s. They established Lachvina stud in Parkes and have bred some wonderful cattle over the years.
While Ray was in a full-time role with the NSW Government, Laurelle was Councillor on the APBA, then after his retirement from public service Ray stepped up into various roles with the APBA over the years, holding the Treasurer and President positions alternately.
Ray has put so much dedication into the betterment of our beloved breed of cattle, including making sure our breed standards, constitution and by-laws were always up to date and fit for purpose.
He went to become our representative with the International Pinzgauer Breeder’s Association and maintained many connections with the overseas breeders. Ray and Laurelle had almost completely organised the overseas tour for our international breeders in 2020 when COVID put a halt to that.
We will miss Ray greatly. His passing leaves a great hole of knowledge and drive for our breed. It will be difficult to fill his shoes.
If you wish to send Laurelle a message of condolence directly, her email is lachvina@iinet.net.au.

The APBA would like to let all members know that we are there to help if you need any assistance with any of your animals. PLEASE contact us first if you need help with placing your stock rather than just sending them off to market. We will do what we can to keep our rare breed going.
The Rare Breeds Trust of Australia has sent out a message in a similar vein which will give you assurance that there is a community out there wishing to look after these precious genetics. We publish it here with permission of the Rare Breeds Trust:
[Dear Member of the Rare Breeds Trust:
During this uncertain time we want to reach out to you with a quick update. We recognize the considerable weight placed upon our farmers and other essential personnel during this time. You are our most important partners for rare breed conservation and we want to support the work you are doing to help our country in this time of need.
We remain dedicated to protecting endangered livestock and poultry breeds from extinction, even during this pandemic. Our operations are continuing as normally as possible as we follow the ever-changing guidelines of our state and country to keep everyone safe.
Schedules are continually changing. Before attending an upcoming event, please check with event organizers for the most current information, including cancellations, re-scheduling, news and updates. Upcoming Royal Shows have already been canceled.
We are available by phone, email and social media. We hope you will reach out with questions or comments about how we can continue to support you during this time. And please remember, that if the worst happens do not just send your rare breeds to the market. Contact us first. We will endeavour to find a buyer who is interested in the continuation of your rare breed.
Thank you for being a valued part of The Rare Breeds Trust of Australia community. We hope you will continue to stay safe, healthy and well.
Warm regards,
Anne Sim

The first black and white purebred Pinzgauers have landed on the ground at Fairfield Family Farm - a horned bull calf and a polled heifer by Austrian Bull MAX.
Haller Fex (PH) - son of the well-known Liabin - has landed in Australia - 4 cows already inseminated at Fairfield Family Farm late in the season, and many more to do in spring in NSW and Victoria. Big thanks go to the breeders Ossi and Melanie Dick, and Thomas Sendlhofer vom Rinderzuchtverband Salzburg ( Pinzgauerrind ) for making this import possible!

2 Nov 2018: Shalni Park Konnie had twin heifers from kr Mars - an Austrian AI sire, who is polled and a great grandson of Ravensbrook Caesar. Excellent news, congratulations to John & Vicki Murdica at Shalni Park.
April 2018: A 10 day tour around Austria with visits to Pinzgauer breeders in several states concluded in the General Meeting of the Worldwide Pinzgauer Associations, and the Pinzgauer Show 2018 in Maishofen, Salzburg. There was a separate section for Beef Pinzgauers, and some very impressive animals on show.
Read MoreA test for the poll markers has been available in Europe for some time, and has been used by European Pinzgauer breeders promoting their bulls. As of February 2018 poll testing is now offered in Australia through NEOGEN, and Pinzgauer society members have been quick to take up this testing, in order to determine whether animals bred from two animals with the poll phenotype are now heterozygous or homozygous polls. Breeding a homozygous poll bull is the goal of the breeder, as such a bull will produce 100% polled offspring. Please contact the society for details re this testing.
